“Well, that was a laugh.”
That quote was said by most Gears heads around the world after people realized the lack of proper mechanics and content that was Gears of War: Judgment. This new release was supposed to liven up the GoW franchise before the release of the Xbox One, but instead, it simply soured thousands of people away from the entire franchise. It is not without a sense of irony, however. I personally hopped on Gears of War 3 just last night, and was astonished that there were over 5000 people playing at one time. Gears of War: Judgment does not even break 500 people most days.
With the failure that was GoWJ, people are now starting to wonder… Is Epic Games working on a new Gears game for the Xbox One, that we would hopefully see released late 2015 or early 2016? This question was raised due to this image here.
The individual in the picture is Dominic Santiago’s older brother named Carlos. This “leaked” photo has sparked rumors of a new Gears of War game in development, with the campaign possibly being an overview of the Pendulum Wars.
It all boils down to a few simple points for me. For this “next” Gears of War to succeed, we need the following: locust’ return in multiplayer, more than 4 multiplayer maps at initial release, more playable characters, a gnasher that works, a melee that is not a viable go-to tactic, the lack of starting grenades, a digger that works, one set of playlists, horde, lack of stopping power, and that’s all I can think of at the moment. But what do I know… I’m a just a commentator and a montager. Not exactly a casual gamer. Gears of War, I wish you well, and hope to someday see you again.
